The New Rules of Aging Well

Eat less. As we age, our bodies naturally need less food. Utilize fasting on certain days to give your digestive system a chance to completely work and process the food you eat. Going for long periods of time without eating does not mean starve yourself to fit society’s standard of beauty. Abstaining from food for long periods of time has proven to elevate focus and creativity.

70% of the immune system is found in the gut. As you age, it’s critical to cultivate a healthy gut microbiome, full of many different strains of good bacteria. If this internal eco system is off, it can lead to serious issues throughout your body. Focus on eating probiotic and prebiotic foods everyday. Eat well and live well!

Get serious about cutting sugar. Sugar becomes a lot more harmful to your body as you age. It weakens your immune system and feeds diseases we all fear.
Even though our culture frames sugar as a treat, it’s actually more like a punishment for your body. It becomes a drug, an addictive substance that stimulates the same areas in the brain as cocaine and heroin.

Sleep more and sleep better. Step outside into sunshine first thing in the morning to keep your circadian rhythm in sync with nature. This allows you to be lively in the day, waning as the sun sets, and sleepy at night. Meditate in the morning. Cardio workouts during the day make it easier to fall asleep at night.

Keep your bedroom cool. Avoid late night snacking. Try not to fall asleep in front of the TV. Keep your room dark. It’s important to get enough REM sleep and these small hacks will help.
